According to an increasing number of crimes that harm against children in Thai society, Naresuan University Demonstration School (Kindergarten and Primary) has been aware of such violence and concerned about students’ life. The school therefore organised the project “Safety Drilling”
on 31 March 2021 to train and prepare students for any danger whether they are at school or not such as child abduction, confrontation with criminals/insane persons/drunkards, escape in a safe place in violent situations. To achieve this, NUDS was kindly assisted by the ad hoc police team from Phitsanulok Police Station, led by Pol.Lt.Col. Wasin Supa, the Inspector (Suppression), to give a special lecture on self-defense, plus playing a role of criminals and policemen together with volunteer guardians.
The drill used the instructional approach “Role Playing” and “Simulation-Based Learning” to help students and guardians practice awareness and acquire problem-solving skills when confronting harmful treats. The activity went on smoothly as the police team and the school had discussed what methods would be used to prevent a shock or undesirable memory to participants. When the drilling was over and the criminals (acted by the police) were arrested, Pol.Sen.Sgt.Maj. Pitak, a cute police mascot, appeared to give big smiles on everyone’s face. This drilling is regarded as another great success of Naresuan University Demonstration School (Kindergarten and Primary) in terms of keeping a promise to protect, secure and take care of our children to be safe, physically and mentally, no matter they are in or out of the school.
